The Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation, a Commonwealth statutory agency, runs the Fire Technology Laboratory at North Ryde in Sydney. It is NATA-accredited (165, site 3625) for reaction to fire, fire resistance and bushfire testing to the AS 1530 series — walls, floors, doors, dampers, shutters, ducts, columns, roofs, ceilings, penetration seals, windows and glazing — and sells that testing commercially. It also operates ActivFire, the listing scheme for active fire products named directly in Australian specifications. CSIRO has agreed a temporary lease extension keeping the North Ryde laboratory running to the end of the 2026–27 financial year.
